Our Mission, Our Staff & Our Facility

Action Gymnastics Sportsplex began as a gymnastics training center in February 2001. In July 2006 Action expanded to a complete sportsplex offering gymnastics, dance and several other programs geared towards the development of youth fitness. Our 15,000 square foot facility is the largest gymnastics training center in the Coachella Valley. It is equipped with all of the state of the art training equipment necessary for the safest and most optimal learning experience, development and progress potential. Our facility is also fully air conditioned throughout the building.

Our staff takes a positive approach to gymnastics training and is safety oriented.

Staff

T. J. Weaver  
GYM DIRECTOR:
T. J. Weaver has coached gymnastics for over 24 years. In 1988, he was a coach for a camp at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado. He has also been a guest coach at the annual UCLA Camp. From 1984 to 1992, he coached for a variety of strong organizations. From 1992 to 2000, he owned and operated a successful school in Pasadena, CA. He has produced many champions at Local, Sectional, State, Regional and National levels. T.J. coaches level 5 through 10 on Vault and Bars.He is a USA Gymnastics Professional Member and is Safety Certified. He has a positive and safe approach to coaching gymnastics.
     
Imelda Gutierrez  

TEAM COACH:
Imelda Gutierrez was a competitive gymnast in high school. She was part of a small group that travelled to Romania and trained with Romanian coaches. While there she met the “Great” gymnast Nadia. Imelda has coached gymnastics for over 20 years. For the first 12 years, she worked for several gyms here in the valley. For the past 8 years, she has been here at Action Gymnastics. She is the Level 4 and 5 Team coach and she also coaches the girl’s Pre-Team levels. She has a very hands-on approach to coaching with an emphasis on having fun while learning new skills.

     
Mariano Noriega  

TEAM COACH:
Mariano Noriega has been coaching gymnastics at all levels for more than 30 years. After receiving both his Bachelors and Masters degrees in physical education in Buenos Aires, he coached many gymnasts, including the Argentine Women’s National Team in the PanAmerican and World Maccabiah Games from 1983-1988. After moving to the United States with his family, Mariano taught group classes and coached individual athletes at the National Gymnastics Training Center in Aliso Viejo, CA for 8 years. He is excited to be a new team member at Action Gymnastics!

     
Robin Davis  

TEAM COACH:
Robin Davis has coached USAG and Collegiate gymnastics for over 8 years. She is also a former USAG competitive athlete, level 4 through 10. Robin continued her gymnastics in college as an NCAA Division 1 athlete for 4 years. She has been a Team Coach here at Action Gymnastics since late 2008. Robin coaches the level 7 and 8 gymnasts on Beam and Floor. She has an extensive dance background and has a fun and positive coaching style.

     
Nick Hobson   PRE-TEAM COACH:
Nick Hobson has been coaching gymnastics for Action Gymnastics since late 2005. He came to us as a very talented and driven athlete who already possessed a natural ability for twisting and flipping. As he fine-tuned his skills through Action Gymnastics, he became more and more aware of the technical aspect and how to teach the sport of gymnastics effectively. He is now a very big part of the Action staff. He coaches all levels up through competitive level 4. He is a patient, positive and progressive coach.
     
Charo Raygada  

ACADEMY COACH:
Rosario Raygada was born north of Lima, Peru. She competed in gymnastics in school, winning several awards. She was also part of the team for the Piura’s Grau Club. As an instructor, she studied gymnastics at the Peruvian Sports Institute specializing as a Youth Coach. She taught gymnastics for several different schools over the years. She has been working at Action Gymnastics since 2001. Charo coaches all the Action academy levels, beginning through advance. Her students range from age 2 through 12 years old. Over the years she has learned new techniques and other coaching skills and she works very well with the Action students and staff.
